This has been our identified film institution, as Miramax Films is an art-house/independent film production company that both produced and distributed films including foreign films over its 31-year history. Founded by the brothers Harvey and Bob Weinstein in Buffalo, New York in 1979, the company was originally created to distribute independent films deemed commercially unfeasible by the major studios, thus making it seemingly fitting to choose this institution to showcase new talent and to support independent projects such as our own.
Another reason why Miramax Films was selected was due to the Director, Quentin Tarantino distributing a large part of his projects with this corporation. Tarantino composes movies that hold characteristics from the crime/thriller genre which are used as examples worldwide, and is the genre that we have chosen to revolve our project on. A majority of Miramax's films are typically inspirational to our project due to them conforming to genre conventions and stereotypes within the genre. Some of these projects distributed in the label include "Kill Bill vols. 1&2", "Gangs of New York" (2002), "Pulp Fiction" (1994) and "Reservoir Dogs" (1992).
